Week 3 Journal

As the week progressed, I found myself in a pool of assignments and a bit overwhelmed. Then, I thought to myself to do the things I needed done at that second, as I began to prioritize things managed to come together (thanks for the pointer Ms.McComas). I submitted most of week 3's assignments earlier in the week and I took more time on Assignments 1.2.7-1.2.8. First, I reflected my thoughts on notebook paper and then I typed them on the word processor before I posted them. I like doing my work this way because it gives me time to let everything sink in and come back to it in a couple days and throw in any comments that I may have left out. After being in class for three weeks, I have noticed I am getting more accustomed to reading articles online, however, I still prefer to read lengthy ones on paper. It seems like the computer makes my eyes fatigue much faster than reading off paper. This weeks assignments weren't too bad, they were just very time consuming to me. I did notice a lot more reading this week than last week and I think that is why these assignments seemed to take longer. ... Link
Week 2 Journal

Even though this school week was only four days, it has been hard to get back into the swing of things. I feel that the class meeting on Wednesday was a good way to begin the course. I must admit that I was a bit overwhelmed when I looked over the assignments for week 2. I had never heard of a MOO before and when I printed the MOO documents I thought they looked Greek. After the class meeting it all meant a little more since to me. I guess trying something new is always difficult at first. This brings me to share a quote I read this week. "Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward." -Vernon Law I am the type person who wants to know how to do things step by step and it doesn't always work that way. One example of this is when I was working on assignment 1.1.9. There was no right or wrong prompt to write in regards to the three articles we read. However, I struggled and struggled with what type of prompt to use. I read each of the articles at least twice and finally came to a prompt. The more I read the more I understood about information literacy. Now, I feel that I know the importance of information literacy and why it is important to be a lifelong learner, thus, information literate. I am going to close for now. I am at WVU on a Saturday night and I am doing homework, now that takes discipline! :) ... Link

Initially I felt that the content of this course would be very difficult because I don't consider myself to be computer literate. I use email on a frequent basis but that has been the extent of my computer experience other than microsoft word. However, I found the assignments I have completed thus far to be less complicated than I originally anticipated. I found the yahoo group to be very interesting. I am looking forward to posting and sharing information with my classmates. While completing the assignments for week 1 I found the steps given in the handout to be very beneficial and easy to follow. Each assignment was explained in a way, which I was successfully able to complete them. The most challenging assignment for me was joining the group because I had never joined a group and didn't know what to expect. At first glance, I thought the weblog would be difficult to create. However, by using the step-by-step instructions I was able to successfully create the weblog. When completing my journal I had to refer back to the support assignment instructions for guidance and clarification. This first week of CD 315 has helped me realize how easy technology can be learned when broken down into steps. I am eager to see how we as a group can learn from each other and share quality work. I am very excited to create my own weblog and see its results. Because my fears have been alleviated, I am very eager and enthusiastic about the course. ... Link |
